Meet Shanda Domango of Domango Training in New Orleans, LA with partnerships in Houston and Dallas.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanda Domango.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shanda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there. I’m a NOLA girl, New Orleans born and raised. I knew at age 12 at my dance recital, I wanted to be a professional dancer and choreographer. I always had a love for fitness via taking gymnastics and participating in high school competitive cheerleading. At 15, I lost my dad to cancer and it fueled my passion to continue to make him and my mother proud.

At 18, I started working out and training close friends and choreographing for local artists in New Orleans and Lafayette. While studying business at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, I created the University’s first Hip Hop Dance team- Infinity.

It was my time at ULL, where I developed my skills and knowledge as a personal trainer and choreographer. It wasn’t until I found myself dancing professionally, personal training, and attending Graduate School in Los Angeles where I decided to merge my love for dance and fitness into an official career. I began expanding my personal training clientele and teaching Hip Hop Cardio classes to dancers and community members.

While setting the foundation for my business (Domango Training), I received a phone call that my mother was sick and I needed to return to New Orleans immediately. She passed away one week later.

Finding myself back in the South, I decided it was the perfect time to launch my company where it all started, in New Orleans!

In 2015, I launched Domango Training, Inc. a Healthy Active Lifestyle company. I began building relationships with different gyms and organizations in the city and have expanded to where we provide personal training, group classes, private event services, and artist conditioning.

As I continue to build my brand in New Orleans, I have planned to spread the healthy active lifestyle movement to Houston beginning with pop up fitness classes and private event services.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? RE-ACCLIMATING – It definitely has not been a smooth road! Re-acclimating myself to the South and letting people know I was here to stay was one of the hardest things. I had to really prove in the first two years of being home that I was here to build and wouldn’t return back to Los Angeles once I finished grieving my mother.

MINDSET – Once I did prove that it was all about building client retention in personal training and group classes. I had to really sit down and rethink how I would get the community to embrace the concept of a healthy active LIFESTYLE not for a moment but on a long-term basis.
