In the hustle and bustle of daily life, our homes stand as steadfast shelters, cradling our dreams, joys, and even our vulnerabilities. But just as we tend to the physical upkeep of our living spaces, there's an often-overlooked aspect deserving of our attention: spiritual protection.
I want to share 6 subtle ways I spiritually protect my home without feeling like I'm doing the most.

Let's get to protecting and cleaning your space.
1.) Candles & Tea light water Vases
Candles are a great way to invite warm and protective energy into your space. They also make for a beautiful accent when decorating your home. Two types of candles I use for protection are:
The 7 day white prayer candle enclosed in glass- I usually unwrap my candle so that it is bare and without a label on it, but do what feels right for you. I cleanse the candle with a sage or Palo Santo stick to get rid of any negative energy it might have picked up in packaging. I dress the inside of the candle with protective herbs. My favorite are: Thyme, Basil, and Rosemary. This is my go to foundational herbs for clearing out negative energy and calling in for protection. I set an intention or prayer for clearing and protection over my home and I light the candle. I encourage you to let the candle stay lit and burn all the down. This also allows the energy of the flame to see the intention through. Don't forget to place your candles somewhere safe in your home when leaving your candles to burn. I usually place my candle in the living room, my bedroom, or my office on a shelf or desk.
Tea lights- Tea light candles are fun to use especially when you are having family over in the backyard and you want to keep the bugs and flies away too! This is where I like to get fancy and integrate my herbs along with essential oils. What you want to do is take a vase or glass bowl and fill it with water. Then you are going to add your herbs and essential oils. When working with tea lights I love to use fresh lemon slices, Rosemary, and Lavender directly in the water. I then add a few drops of lavender and citronella essential oil. This combo repels negative energy, purifies your space, and welcomes love and protection. I use the same approach of setting my intention to protect my space and welcome in love and light. I also let the tea light burn all the way down into completion. When doing this indoors, my house smells so amazing and it feels so light and airy when I do this. I always do this in my kitchen.
2.) Crystal decor
Next up is the crystal decor we can place around our home. Crystals are made up of energy that gives them properties and abilities such as absorbing negative energy and emitting love and light.
Crystals that I use to clear negative energy and protect my home are selenite, agate, black obsidian, black tourmaline, and amethyst.
Selenite is known for its cleansing and purifying properties. It can help remove negative energies from the environment, promoting peace and harmony within the home. Placing selenite in various rooms can create a protective barrier while also enhancing mental clarity.
Agate is a grounding stone that can help stabilize and protect the home. It promotes emotional balance, strength, and courage, making it an excellent choice for creating a sense of security and stability within the household. Different types of agate, such as black agate or moss agate, offer additional protective qualities.
Black obsidian is a powerful protective stone that absorbs and transmutes negative energies. It acts as a shield against psychic attacks, negativity, and electromagnetic smog, making it an ideal choice for safeguarding the home. Placing black obsidian near entryways or windows can help create a barrier against outside influences.
Black Tourmaline: Black tourmaline is another potent protective stone that creates a shield against negativity and harmful energies. It's often used for grounding and purification, making it effective for protecting the home from unwanted influences. Placing black tourmaline near electronic devices or in areas with h
I use home decor items such as coasters, crystal shapes (spheres, trees, lions, owls, etc.) , and geodes to place through out my home. They provide a beautiful decor accent and help create an energetic field for protection throughout your home. You can also get small selenite bars to place above the door of each room (front door and back door is a must).
Just like with working with candles, be sure to set your intention for your crystals. I like to think of them as teammates who need to know what the play and assignment is: protection.
3.) Herbal pillow bags
Herbal pillow bags are something I love making for myself as well as for my 4 year old twin boys. I fill muslin bags specific herbs, set my intention of protection, and place it inside of our pillow cases. The pillow bags are great for your bedroom, guest bedroom, and underneath your sofa cushions. Herbs that I place in our pillow bags are Sage, Lavender, Basil, and Jasmine. I love this combo because not only does it cleanse and protects, but it also leaves a great scent and energy of love and renewal behind. It also aids in protecting your energy in your sleep and allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.
4.) Spiritual home cleaner
Making my own home cleaner is by far one of my favorite ways to keep me home feeling positively lifted, protected. It also saves money on having to buy all types of different cleaners for your home. I use this recipe to clean different surfaces such as counters, tubs, baseboards, doors, wooden furniture etc. The ingredients I use are spring water, white vinegar, Florida water, baking soda, and a few slices of fresh lemon. If you are a huge scent person I would even add a few drops of your favorite essential oil such as lavender or peppermint. I take a mason jar and fill it half way with spring water. I then add about a cup of white vinegar, 2 table spoons of baking soda, 3 splashes of Florida water, and 2 slices of lemon. When working with leather I add a splash of olive oil to condition the material and leave a small shine. I set my intention asking the solution to cleanse, bless, and keep my spaces protected. I love this, because I can use the solution into how I already clean and upkeep my home. It is a great feeling because my home is always getting cleansed and covered in some type of way every time I clean or wipe something off.
5.) Herbal decor vases
I had a client who has a BEAUTIFUL Rosemary spread in her home, and one day she gave me a long handful of fresh stems to bring home. Rosemary is a great herb for clearing and protection as well as promoting love and positivity. I took a few of the stems and used them in a healing bath. I placed the remaining stems in a vase with fresh water. It was a whole vibe! I placed the vase on my kitchen window and it brightened the energy of the entire kitchen area. I also loved the way it made my home feel and smell. Other great herbs that are beautiful to decorate with are lavender and mint. Lavender is often associated with peace, relaxation, and purification. Its calming scent can create a soothing atmosphere in your home while also warding off negative energies. Mint is known for its refreshing scent and its ability to attract positive energy. It's often used in rituals for healing and protection.
6.) Simmer Pots
Last but not least we have the good go to of an herbal simmer pot. People have been using this approach as a way to promote certain fragrances and scents in their home, but it is also a great way to spiritually clear and protect your home. I call it the good ole 2 for 1 special. You can take any size pot you would like. I usually use a medium sized pot. You want to fill your pot a little over halfway with water and toss in your favorite herbs. Place your stove on low heat, set your intention and let the herbs do the rest. The herbal combination I use changes between Fall and Spring. For Fall I use warmer herbs and spices: Cinnamon, oranges, Clove, sea salt, and Star Anise or Cardamom. This blend is great for warding off negative energy and welcoming in love, joy, and abundance into your home. In the Spring, I use Rosemary, Basil, lemon, and Lavender for a fresher and lighter smell but with the same intention.
I hope you found some ways that resonated with you to cleanse, protect, and bless your home. They are great ways to spiritually and energetically care for your home and plug into your lifestyle.
For all of my people who can't do smudging with sage, check out our REFRESH spray. It is a great smokeless way to keep your home lifted and clear. I created it as need for keeping my home clear with my boys being allergic to the smoke sage produces. I use it in my car and even on myself in between clients!
Happy Healing ya'll

About Shanda Domango Brown
Owner of Domango Training
Trained dancer and choreographer Shanda Domango thought she knew her body until she became pregnant. She had already faced losing her parents, starting two businesses, and getting married. But becoming pregnant forced Domango to start her own healing journey.
"I was terrified of change, the future, and it was manifesting as physical pain, " says Domango.
Domango decided to reach out to an old
family friend who was a medium and spiritual healer. Minister Esprit, who began teaching Domango chakra-based and ancestral healing for her trauma and daily life.
Working with Minister Esprit, her Master's Degree in Arts Management, and her career in dance and fitness, Domango developed a new integrative approach to healing. Calling it Healing Movement, which is also influenced by somatic and embodiment practices, Domango used it as a way to improve her physical, mental, and emotional as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finding she was losing weight, building muscle tone, and feeling clearer emotionally and spiritually, Domango decided to offer Healing Movement to others. She opened a studio and started using the practice to teach other women.
Working with organizations such as Metropolitan Human Services District, New Orleans Opera, and Essence Festival Wellness House, Domango has been educating and empowering women to heal and reconnect with their body and spirit.
“My twins are now three years old, and I am beyond grateful to have the tools to stay present and grounded as a woman and mother,” Domango says. Most importantly, I get to teach my boys a level of self awareness and confidence that will last them a lifetime.”
